Album Graveyard: Found Dead Hanging: Dulling Occams Razor (EP)

At first listen, the twisted chaos that’s churned out by Found Dead Hanging will get compared to Dillinger Escape Plan to those unfamiliar with this sort of noise. A closer looks reveals that Found Dead Hanging actually sound very little like Dillinger Escape Plan. Instead we have lots of start and stop chaos, lots of dissonant tones, generally metallic moments and some breakdowns with fairly decent sounding hardcore vocal style.

"Dulling Occams Razor" got beat up on by a lot of reviewers. Personally, I wouldn’t say that Found Dead Hanging were as bad as everyone said they were. The overall package they’ve presented is a slight bit different than most of their noisecore/spazcore/mathcore brethen by containing those more metallic moments.

If you’re into it, then "Dulling Occams Razor" is fun while your there, especially with a song titled “Solar Powered Sun Destroyer”. If you find this EP, it’ll probably be found for $3.50 in the used section, and worth every penny.

The historical purpose of Found Dead Hanging isn’t totally lost. Back in 2003 there weren’t too many of these types of bands floating around. Perhaps if Found Dead Hanging hadn’t had so many lineup changes, break-ups and name changes they might have been able to perfect their craft and become a more substantial force. The name changes go from Ghost Of The Saltwater Machines to Architect. As it stands right now, the ultra underground artsy movement of such noise bands releasing only EP’s and splits is still stirring. It’s almost a good thing that the Black Market Activities website rarely gets updated. If you can find it, you might be able to find the entertaining “A .45 Caliber Defribulator A Prototype Of Sorts” mp3 rolling around.

6/10
